47 Ronin Katana
At the beginning of the 18th century, the two princes Kamei Korechika and Asano Naganori were commissioned by the Shogun to prepare a reception ceremony for the emperor's emissary. The two were dependent on the corrupt master of ceremonies Kira Kozuke, who was supposed to teach them about court etiquette. In return, however, he expected generous gifts and gifts. In contrast to Kamei, Asano refused, whereupon he was particularly badly taught, insulted and provoked by the master of ceremonies. After some time of enduring Asano finally burst the collar and he attacked Kira with his knife. Although he only slightly injured him, the crime was punishable by death and Asano committed seppuku, ritual suicide. Asano's followers included
47 samurai who became Ronin (abandoned samurai) through Asano's death. Although they knew blood revenge would mean death, they made a plan to assassinate the Master of Ceremonies. After months of preparation, they finally managed to break into Kira's mansion, execute him, and then sever his head.
After laying Kozuke's head on Asano's grave, the ronin surrendered. Since they had avenged their master and thus acted in accordance with the samurai's code of honor, the shogun allowed seppuku to commit suicide, which meant that they were not executed as usual criminals. This event is an outstanding example of the unconditional loyalty and loyalty of the samurai to their master.
