Gunto Katana:
The Japanese military sword is called the Gunto. At the end of the 19th century, the design was based on the French military sabers. In order to bring the troops closer to the spirit of the samurai code of honor (Bushido), a decision was made in 1934 to look like the katana. The swords of ordinary soldiers were mostly manufactured industrially and therefore of simple quality. On the other hand, the swords of high-ranking military personnel were often equipped with traditional blades from the family heritage. The rank of an officer could be recognized by the colors of the Sageos (ribbon). In contrast to the katana, the Sageo was mounted on the handle end of the Gunto.
The John Lee Gunto has the color of a captain.
