Kamakura Tachi:
The Kamakura period (1185-1333) was a pivotal era in the history of Japan. It is characterized by the first military government (Shogunat), which was created in 1192 by Minamoto no Yoritomo. The name of this epoch is derived from the seat of government at the time, which was located in the city of Kamakura (approx. 50 km southwest of Tokyo). Together with armor (Yoroi) and combat knife (Tanto), the Tachi was mostly worn on the battlefield.
The John Lee Kamakura Tachi uses a deliberately simple look and thus differs from replicas of later eras, which were mostly richly decorated and only used for ceremonial purposes.
